Rust Belt Community Foundation
The Rust Belt Community Foundation (RBCF) is dedicated to supporting the social and economic wellbeing of the city in which it is located. It is especially concerned with advancing racial equity and justice. Despite being a secular foundation, RBCF recognizes the role churches and religious nonprofits play in many communities needing social services, and it allocates some of its discretionary funding to support the non-religious programming of those organizations. RBCF also recognizes the historical role religious organizations have played in supporting racial justice in the United States; this legacy motivates them to support religious organizations in the present.
Coastal Legacy Foundation
The Coastal Legacy Foundation (CLF) provides funding to religious organizations and tries to engage and educate them on important issues such as climate change and healthcare. One fourth of CLF's grantees are religious and most of them are Christians because of the founding member’s close affiliation with Christianity. CLF does not seek value alignment, and prefers to support grantees that are playing a leading role in shaping the opinions and actions within religious communities through education, advocacy, media, and activism. CLF is also working on a project to reach out to 25% of the religiously conservative people in the US i.e.; Evangelical Christians to educate them on the issue of climate change. They provide instrumental support to conservative religious communities. For example on projects related to climate and green initiatives, and help them achieve common goals.
The Equitable City Foundation
The Equitable City Foundation (ECF) was founded in the 1980s to continue a Midwestern family’s legacy of philanthropy. Funding decisions are based on the degree to which the organization aligns with several broad categories, such as access to quality education and health care. ECF will fund a faith-based organization if its programming aligns with one of ECF’s broad funding categories. A recent initiative within ECF is to fund programs that address inequity in underserved communities. If there is a faith-based organization that addresses inequities in the community, ECF will consider funding the organization as long as participants are not expected to participate in religious activities.
